Artist Statement

I'm a curious person. My desire to know more about our world has found its form of expression in the fields of documentary and portrait photography. I’m especially interested in investigating social systems, forms of injustice, and isolation that have manifested themselves in the 21st century that often go unnoticed.

My primary source of inspiration and information has become my own experiences. Because I often have trouble concentrating and have a shorter memory than the average person. My camera feels like a prosthetic; a manufactured replacement for a limb that I had lost or was missing. It makes moving around in unknown spaces, amongst unknown people an easy feat. It not only makes me more social and determined but gives me back my ability to truly concentrate on my surroundings - something I would have never been able to achieve on my own.

My work reveals the loneliness that is experienced by human beings, captured by me and contextualized through my own experiences. Only through my own, deeply personal, point of view can I connect me to the person in front of my camera and eventually relate their problems to others. Ultimately, I’d say that in its most basic form - my work is my work is my camera, myself and my curiosity about life.
