De Lounge

{2017} Twenty-two-year-old photographer Annemée Dik has worked as an activities counselor in the lounge of a retirement home every other weekend for the past 3 years.

In her project “The Lounge” she expresses her fascination with the lives of the elderly women in this home, and how they live out their last years. These women are a part of her life, just as she is a part of theirs, and the love and respect that she feels for these ladies is translated onto the intimate portraits that she takes of them and their day to day activities.

These portraits form the basis of her project, which also dives into the history and politics of how Dutch healthcare system treats the elderly.
